The Continuation Of Microsoft’s Boring Entertainment Dream

Before yesterday’s Xbox One reveal event, the internet was buzzing with gossip about what Microsoft would show. There were many posts and rumors about the potential for the event. It was something that could, if done well, bring Microsoft to the forefront of the next generation party. One of the main questions that was asked pre-performance was would we finally get what Microsoft have moved away from in recent times, the games? The answer came to be a resounding no. The industry held its breath for the announcement and it fell flat. This is all due to Microsoft’s dream of a fully capable entertainment product, not a gaming device.
The stage was set and we got the first few people on the stage of the Xbox Event. Then came the words that everyone dreaded hearing. “Xbox, watch TV.” Some expletives were shared in my living room when this was the first thing on show at the event. After sitting, waiting patiently for the announcement of the console… After being shown the first glimpse of the actual hardware of the future, we were “treated” to a long, overstated presentation that was supposed to be the main piece. The main course of the show was not to be gaming, but television. Even the
How were we supposed to react upon seeing this? Surely Microsoft did not seriously believe that this presentation was what everyone wanted to see. That would be absurd. The decision to maintain the trend that Xbox had been taking over the past few years, away from the gaming and to the living room viewing could not have been a bigger blunder. Entertainment in general was not the reason many of the press were at the event and entertainment in general was not the reason that Xbox are still even a viable competitor to Sony and Nintendo. It was always gaming. Recently though, games that are original and breathtaking from Microsoft have been few and far between as they rely too heavily on the established franchises and third party games being churned out.
Was there going to be anything to do with games? I feared the worst, until they began to talk games. But then the worst became reality, as there was not one glimpse of originality. Quantum Break? It was a live action trailer interspersed with CG. Forza? Sequel. Call of Duty: Ghosts? Did not live up to the promise of being a game changer, still just a sequel. The lack of proof to back up the tag of a next generation console was worrying.
Television is not at all something that will sell systems. If the console is marketed around this basis the console will flail and falter. No one is willing to pay for an overly expensive television recorder. Gimmicky channel changing cameras will not change that one bit for any consumers and those that do purchase the console will end up selling theirs fairly quickly if it cannot hold a flame to the PlayStation 4 and its gamer-centric philosophy. Microsoft need to come back to the gamers and say sorry. Bring us those 15 exclusives that they were talking about! E3 is the last chance for them to reclaim their lost ground.

Battlefield 4 Multiple New Screens Released

After the deluge of information coming from the Xbox One reveal conference, along with a tonne of video footage of Call of Duty: Ghosts , Battlefield developer EA wants to get in on the news action. They have revealed a new piece of DLC for their newest entry into the franchise, Battlefield 4, along with some new screens for us to compare to Call of Duty on the Xbox One.
Earlier today, EA released images of the Battlefield 4 game to accompany the announcement that the game would indeed be coming to the only just-announced console from Microsoft, the Xbox One, in addition to the PlayStation 4, Sony’s next generation console. The screens show off wonderful graphics on the faces of the characters among other images, including a jungle setting that will help us to compare it with Activision’s juggernaut franchise. Here they are below:

1369166717-2
1369166717-1

There was also the announcement that the game, if pre-ordered, would come with a China Rising additional downloadable content map pack at no extra cost. Here’s a description of the DLC: “In this sprawling expansion, players fight for dominance across the vast and majestic Chinese mainland in four massive multiplayer maps, using all-new vehicles and high-tech military equipment.”
Lastly, the publisher announced that the game’s multiplayer will be shown off to the public for the first time on June 10th, or as we like to call it… E3! The reveal will take place during EA’s press conference at 1:00 PM PST on the 10th, so mark the date in your calenders people!
Battlefield 4 will be releasing October 29th for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC platforms.  The next generation release dates will be revealed when the console’s release dates have been announced presumably, so keep your eyes peeled to Leviathyn for more news on Battlefield 4 as it comes our way!

Halo Live Action TV Show Announced

Bonnie Ross from 343 Industries came onto the stage today to announce the news that for the Xbox One, there will be a Halo Live Action Television programme being developed.
She announced the news at today’s Microsoft Next Xbox conference along with a picture behind her saying “Wake Up John.” This followed the exciting news that Xbox One will feature new experiences in television.
One exciting aspect of the proposed Halo live action show is the involvement of Steven Spielberg. He talked to the audience through a pre-recorded video as he was not present, but he spoke about how today’s technology allowed the Halo universe to come to life in the live action space.
This comes after the long delayed Halo live action film was cancelled with many gamers more than excited for the realization of one of the best games around getting a TV adaptation.

FIFA 14 First Look

Of the four games that EA Sports are creating for Microsoft’s Xbox One console, FIFA 14 is no doubt going to be one of the biggest due to the fanbase of soccer worldwide. EA sports showed off the game for the first time at the Xbox Event today.
Using EA Sports’ new engine Ignite to build the game, along with others such as Madden, FIFA 14 was shown off with great confidence. Barcelona and Argentina player Lionel Messi was one of the famous players used to talk about their sports prior to the reveal and set the tone for the show.
There will be 3D crowds, dynamic sidelines and on Xbox Live only, there will be daily updates to the football game. FIFA 14 Ultimate Team, one of the most exciting aspects of the FIFA games to date, will be only on the Xbox One console according to EA Sports’ Andrew Wilson.
More will be shown at E3.

"Xbox, Watch TV"

Today at the Next Xbox conference event, Microsoft announced that the next generation Xbox console, called the Xbox One, will have the ability to watch television from the home screen.
The host of the section Yusuf Mehdi revealed the feature in a section about the features of the next Xbox. He said to the console “Xbox, Watch TV” and the console instantly opened up the television capabilities of the console to watch the last television programme he was on. The console was able to use gestures and voice recognition to change channels and apps on the console. These were all available through the use of the next generation Kinect device which was revealed alongside the console design and controller.
Saying to the console the specific channels “Watch CBS” moved the channel of the television to the place that you want without the use of a remote control. There are also favorite channels and also there are trending channels such as things become trending on social networks.

Pac-Man Is Back

Yes, you read that headline correctly. One of the most iconic gaming figures of all time with the original arcade game spawning numerous sequels and even a cameo on Google one time (yeah, we all remember) is back with a new game by Namco Bandai. This time, the new Pac-Man game called Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures will be based on an upcoming television show by the same name.
The announcement was broken today with the release of a trailer and multiple screens. The set up for the story was detailed quite nicely for us by the company “The game revolves around the vibrant universe of Pac-World, where Pacworlders lived in peace until the mischievous Netherworld ghosts, led by their wicked leader Betrayus, escaped from their ghoulish domain to forcibly take control of Pac-World. Pac-World’s only hope lies in the last surviving yellow Pacworlder, our hero with a voracious appetite.” Sounds imaginative.

The graphics aren’t this good.
Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing and Digital Sales at Namco Bandai Games America, had this to say about the announcement: “The Pac-Man franchise has touched millions of gamers and non-gamers since its humble beginnings more than 30 years ago. With its long-standing history, Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures emerges as a new and re-imagined Pac-Man universe that still retains classic gameplay elements that will appeal to a whole new generation of gamers.”
The trailer is here for you to watch in complete and utter horror:
If this is sounding exciting for you, or hopefully more for for your children, the game will follow the exact same characters as the upcoming television show of the same name on Disney XD in the future. In case you were interested, the announcement says that the television show is “created and produced by Avi Arad, acclaimed director and founder of Marvel Studios.” Seems like a big step down for Mr. Arad’s career.
According to the announcement, the game will be available in Fall 2013 for North America and Winter 2013 for Europe. It will feature on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U. There will also be an “exclusive side-scrolling version of the game” coming to Nintendo’s 3DS in Fall 2013.
Here are some screens from the game:

Xbox Event: 5 Things That Could Ruin The Reveal

Last week, I wrote an article detailing the things that Microsoft must do next week at their Xbox reveal to make sure it succeeds. Now I wanted to explore how certain things could ruin the show. Microsoft have surely been poring over every single thing that each individual will say on stage at the event on the 21st of May. But there is a chance that, much like some of the different E3 presentations by Microsoft and Sony alike, the show may be ruined by the choices that they believe to be worth it but end up falling flat. With the dawn of the next generation already being contested between the Xbox and the PlayStation 4, there is no room for error in the reveal.
1 – Spending a ridiculous amount of time on Kinect 2.0 – Ok, we know the Kinect 2.0 is coming and some rumors suggest that the tech will come bundled with the next Xbox in an attempt to merge the two for all users. While the evolution of the technology is exciting for almost everyone, many are tired of endless motion demonstrations. Take the E3 show last year with Sony, where WonderBook was shown for an insane length of time and no one was even remotely paying attention. This must be avoided, as beginning with this or showing the motion tech too early may lead to many viewers and potential customers switching off from what is being said.
2 – A focus on old, aging games – While in the last article I referred to the need for more games, established franchises are not very welcome. You may point me to games such as inFamous, which have continued into next generation, but the difference in that game compared to the last is staggering. This means Halo 5 and Forza and the like need to hide themselves for the time being until games that need a greater exposure have run their course. Naturally, games like Alan Wake could return. I keep returning to this game for the simple reason that it was such a departure from the norm that a return would be much different compared to Halo.
Microsoft, Please do not subject us to more of this kind of trash:
ipfT6X7qITkkS
3 – The Call of Duty presentation – Call of Duty: Ghosts will be coming to next generation consoles, and as we suspected, Microsoft will once again tout the game for their own console and will presumably announce a deal with Activision for some sort of exclusivity. Call of Duty, however, is not something that needed time to itself at a reveal. Showing live gameplay footage of the game that everyone loves to hate at the beginning of the next Xbox could come back to haunt Microsoft. The continuation of a deal could be symbolic of a lack of forward movement from the Xbox manufacturer, and something that could signal a lack of imagination to build their own world beating games.
4 – XboxTV, Xbox Streaming and Partnerships – Come on, who wasn’t excited when Sony told us nothing but information for the gamer? Xbox 360 has recently become more of an all round deal. Streaming, TV deals and multiple different partnerships make Xbox Live full of unnecessary advertisements and it no longer is a console for its original purpose, the gamers. Spending any amount of time on anything but games and partnerships will instantly leave many people frustrated after having so much attention from Sony. This could end up losing Microsoft a whole lot of customers, but gain them a lot of non-gamer types. A fine balance must be struck.
5 – Subscriptions – The subscription tiered service was great for Microsoft on the Xbox 360, but there were many people who criticized some parts of it. Online play for the Xbox was not free, much to the annoyance of some, causing a movement of people to the PlayStation 3. Obviously, many were happy to pay, as the service was then more streamlined and much more comfortable than the rival console’s online interface. Online play itself should be free in my opinion, and any extras can be added in a subscription-based model. Announcing a subscription for online now is too early. People want to know how much to pay for the console and leave it at that.
Is there anything else that would render the reveal ruined for you? Let us know in the comments.

How Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft Could Win E3

Electronic Entertainment Expo 2013 or E3 2013 as we like to call it will be coming around in the next month. The show will no doubt bring many different reveals and surprises as it always does but there is normally one of the three home console manufacturers that bring home title of the winner of E3. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are the big hitters every year and recently, Microsoft and Sony have really brought out the big guns. Things are a little different this time round as the major announcements, the next generation consoles, will already have taken place. Who will bring the big hitting announcements and surprises this time?
Sony
After managing to generate enough buzz for thousands of people to tune into the reveal of the next generation of PlayStation, Sony have to continue their forward momentum into E3. After starting out the current generation behind Microsoft’s Xbox console, Sony had to claw back their market share with games, games and more games… oh and a cheaper, slimmer console as well. Sony will no doubt continue the trend they set in February with their mantra of focusing on the gamer. Obviously, there will be some sort of corporate partnerships present, but if gamers are once again put first Sony will have a very good E3 indeed. Showing games such as inFamous: Second Son (which has been getting a lot of interest recently) in a demo capacity, showing off what the next generation consoles can do will put them ahead of the competition. What they need to do is to avoid staying on the topic of the Move and promote other features that are unique to the PlayStation 4. Lastly, the Vita has not taken off and needs something to help it out, announcing a price cut / bundle in time for the PlayStation 4 would really help the handheld out, but if not they must refrain from focusing too much time on the Vita. A price and specific release date for the PlayStation 4 would send crowds wild and finally seeing the console would top off the Sony conference.
playstation-4-specs
Nintendo
While Nintendo are not releasing any fancy new hardware and they are not having a traditional event like Sony and Microsoft, they are still in serious contention for the E3 2013 crown. Why? Because the lack of console to detail and show off will really help the Wii U. Games will be the focus for Nintendo and it will help their ailing sales no end. Pokemon X and Y for the 3DS will get tonnes of interest and Wii U gameplay reveals for Smash Bros., Mario Kart U, Pikmin 3, Zelda and Bayonetta will send people mental. These are also all exclusives and giant crowd pleasers, simply showing off the game’s name will help Nintendo’s cause. E3 does not always need flashy, over hyped conferences to sell what the companies have to offer and Nintendo will have a simple E3 which could end up making them the winners if they handle it correctly. The issue is that many people have wrongly written them off and a strong E3 presence could be the start of a revival.
nintendo
Microsoft
While the console has not been officially revealed, we are 100% certain there will be an Xbox 720 / Durango / Infinity console out this year. The event for next generation is set for next week, we know it is coming. Much like Sony, revealing a console early and then bringing more to E3 will be on the agenda for the Xbox manufacturer. Microsoft need to focus on games more than anything. The company cannot rest on its laurels hoping that fans of FPS games will return, they need more. No doubt a major showing will be Call of Duty but the size of the franchise is irrelevant now that the next generation is upon us. I would bet my house on Microsoft taking risks with new IPs and seeing these would give Microsoft a boost. Showing off a really cool reveal and then adding Kinect 2.0 afterwards would wow crowds at the expo, asserting their dominance in the motion market once more. Lastly, revealing an Xbox tablet (something that has been widely rumored) would be the icing on the cake, adding in their SmartGlass tech to play games and keep up with games such as Watch Dogs and Destiny could be the deciding factor next gen.
xboxnpc
In my opinion, Sony could edge out Microsoft at E3 with their apparent dedication to gamers. However, Microsoft have surprised me in the past with unique games like Alan Wake and the quality of the Xbox Live service could come back to bite me. Maybe Nintendo could surprise us all and reveal something we had no idea was coming.
Who do you think will win? Let us know below.

$5 For Quiet Jar Jar: A Cynical Man’s Take On EA and Star Wars

So my friends, Star Wars, the franchise that has a warm place in many a nostalgic Sci-Fi nerd’s heart, has been gobbled up by the Disney Corporation and spat out for EA Games to play with. Yes, the “Worst Company In America” for 2 years running has taken on the reigns for turning the beloved franchise featuring that gold bikini, into what will probably be a hundred games in the next two years built on the spangly new Frostbite 3 engine.
If there aren’t Guns… Put Em In!
I have a feeling there will be a considerable amount of Star Wars games that will focus less on the characters, the rich stories that can be tapped from the equivalent of thousands of years of fictitious history and the fun that embodies Star Wars and more on the “PEW! PEW!” side of it. Don’t get me wrong, Star Wars: Battlefront 3 would be great to finally have released, but there should be more than those types of games. Will EA notice this, listen to the fanbase and react accordingly? No. It is all in the money. Take Dead Space, the brilliant horror game that completely blew all of its competition out of the scene. In comes EA, sprouting that the game didn’t do well enough for them and to make it more on the action, set-piece heavy sequences. “Yes that’ll do nicely” is what I can hear executives saying when they see the numbers and not the fans’ reactions. Will the same thing happen with Star Wars? Quite probably.
IT'S A TRAP!
IT’S A TRAP!
Oh, you want access to that final lightsaber that will make you the best Jedi/Sith in the universe? Either complete the game or, for a small fee, get it in the first level and unbalance the game… ahem, we mean the force
So here is the basis of a conversation between me and a friend yesterday after the announcement: “$20 for a new lightsaber DLC” followed by “$5 to shut Jar Jar Binks up for an hour”, “$10 for captions for R2D2″, “$5 for a pet Ewok” and “$10 for princess Leia costume.” You get the idea. EA love the microtransactions and unnecessary downloadable content. Obviously EA are not the only one who use them as almost all publishers and developers use them nowadays, but EA seems to love them. Love them with a passion. I for one do not want my beloved Star Wars games to be ruined by needing to pay to get ahead. Thankfully there will be no mobile games available for the publisher to shoehorn in the microtransactions but will that really stop them on the consoles? Look at Dead Space 3, if you couldn’t craft your super awesome weapon… Why not spend your lovely cash that you earned on materials to build it?

Truly, this is a troubling time for the galaxy, EA taking the license for Star Wars games and trade routes around Naboo are being controlled by the Trade Federation. What will we do?

Xbox Event: 5 Things Microsoft Must Do

We are only days away from the announcement of the second next generation console. The first, Sony’s PlayStation 4, was announced February 2013 in a special event where Sony showed off games specifically to make us drool at the mouth at all the pretty graphics and wowed us with so many specifications that half of the people watching just smiled and nodded despite being unaware of the meaning behind them. Microsoft has followed suit months later, promising a May 21st reveal date in a similar event to show off their competitor for the next generation crown. Much speculation has been thrown around which cannot be helpful to Microsoft’s cause, meaning that this may be their last chance to win over the PlayStation 4 fans before release. Here is how they could do it:
1 – Address the rumors and laugh at them – This is something that is not a choice for Microsoft. This would show them as a company that listens and changes according to their community. It is almost certain that they won’t be including a full always-online system onto their system but the fact that they saw the backlash and acknowledged that will go a long way with convincing the masses that they aren’t a purely corporate money maker (they are though, just like all of them). Laughing at the rumors would give them the air of confidence needed to continue with the show and beat Sony’s event. But don’t laugh at the Microsoft employee, Adam Orth, who was fired over his comments regarding always-online… that would not be cool.
2 – The Console – Start the show by bringing out the console itself and saying “Here is the next Xbox.” This definitive stance will be another show of confidence that will please viewers. Lacking a view-able console design was something that many people decided was a bad decision with the PlayStation 4, including Mr. Xbox himself Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb who tweeted this lovely message out during the PS Event:
Announce a console without actually showing a console? That's one approach
@majornelson
Larry Hryb
After this sort of tweet from an employee, choosing to do the same thing as Sony and not revealing the console itself would be a major mistake from Microsoft. One that could push people towards the competition.
3 – A blow out of tons of NEW games – Yes, we know that Halo is coming. Great. There must be games that no one knows about that are fresh and different. Microsoft must break free of the idea that their console is only for first person shooters. While first person shooters have traditionally done quite well on the console, the Xbox 360 was not exactly full to the brim with inventive exclusives. Alan Wake was a breath of fresh air that, unfortunately, did not sell incredibly well. While this may not have given Microsoft the green light for further risks, the dawn of next generation is the best time for them to bring games that break the mold.
alan wake top
4 – Pricing and release date – While I assume this will be an E3 only piece of information, there is no doubt in my mind that this would give Microsoft the driving seat going into the Expo next month. While Sony simply stated a Holiday 2013 release, a more specific announcement would allow them to have a date firmly in the minds of fans, as opposed to the vague date set by Sony. Even announcing a price now would allow people to judge the price for next generation consoles, setting themselves up in time for the presumably large spending. Knowing how much a product will be helps planning and puts the Xbox first in those plans.
5 – Indie Developers – This is one thing that has to be done. Sony came all out in their support for indie developers with their PlayStation 4 and there has been a lot of fanfare around this initiative. Many people have agreed with Sony and for good reason. For Microsoft to not even mention this would be of serious detriment to their next generation cause as they will be compared in every respect. They could be bashed by developers and gamers alike if they left at least one announcement of this vein till E3 or if they didn’t at all.

Electronic Arts: Battlefield Premium Has 3.5m+ Subs, Origin Has 47m

Through a press release, Electronic Arts have announced their Q4 and Fiscal Year 2013 reports. Within, there were the details of the sales of various games such as Battlefield and FIFA and the revenue they have generated for the company.
Battlefield Premium, the service that was launched for Battlefield 3 giving subscribers access to the map packs first, stat tracking among other things, has reached the milestone of having over 3.5 million subscribers to its services. This is much less than Call of Duty Elite’s 10 million but the difference here is that Elite has 2 million paying subscribers in those 10 million while all of Battlefield Premium’s subscribers are paying the cost. This number of subscribers has pushed revenue through the service to $120 million for the March quarter.
Battlefield_Premium
In terms of the massive FIFA franchise, FIFA 13 has sold 14.5 million copies this fiscal year. According to the report that is an increase of 30% over last year’s FIFA 12 game. While that is a major improvement, the digital net revenue for the game reached $200 million which is an increase of 94% over FIFA 12.
fifa-13-abiati
SimCity, the game that everyone could not stop talking about for a very long time, has sold over 1.6 million copies, with around 50% of that being downloaded through digital means. Meanwhile, The Simpsons: Tapped Out has been a large success for the publisher as the game has now made almost $50 million since its release last August.
the_simpsons_tapped_out
Surprisingly, Electronic Arts’ competitor to Steam, called Origin, has now got over 47 million registered users to its name which is a considerable achievement for the  company considering the stranglehold that Valve’s Steam service holds over the PC market currently.
There was also another confirmation of the deal with Disney for the license to create major Star Wars games. These can be based on any character or storyline, not necessarily just film tie ins. Disappointingly for EA, Disney will keep a hold of mobile games for Star Wars, meaning they cannot build on their Tapped Out game’s success with another well established franchise.

inFamous: Second Son Details Revealed

Today came the reveal that the next issue of Game Informer magazine (June 2013) will be a PlayStation 4 heavy issue. The magazine confirmed via their website that there will be 30 pages of information on the next generation console from Sony. 10 of these pages will be dedicated to one of the first games announced for the PlayStation 4: SuckerPunch’s inFamous: Second Son.
The game was revealed through a trailer during the PlayStation Event in February that showed off its oppressive society, complete with excessive CCTV and armored SWAT-like law enforcement. There was a very thin line of information that could be drawn from such a video, as only the view of the protagonist and how he fights were the big reveals. Today, Gaming Everything has released information from the magazine, summarizing the information nicely for us to peruse at our leisure.
On the summary there are some very big announcements. For example, there is a massive blowout of info on the main character of Second Son Delsin Rowe, who is a “24-year-old Native American.” There is a significant change in powers, as we briefly saw in the trailer as he will have the ability to “control smoke” and use “smoking fireballs” against his enemies. There is the hint toward the possibility of there being more powers than just smoke, as the website points out that he can “absorb other conduits’ power.” Conduits are the characters from the previous inFamous games who have special abilities, the best example of which being the protagonist of the first two games, Cole McGrath, who can control electricity. Similar to these games, certain areas will allow you to replenish your character’s abilities. Whereas Cole could use electrics, Delsin can utilize chimneys, smoke grenades and even destroyed cars. There are similar moves (like the thunder drop, but with smoke), new moves (like “a smoke-dash maneuver somewhat like Nightcrawler”) and still unannounced moves. Exciting stuff!
There is confirmation of the oppression of the law as a new government agency called the “Department of Unified Protection”, who capture and treat Conduits as if they were terrorists. The magazine even refers to them as being labelled “bioterrorists.” Story-wise, the whole game is based around a freedom vs. security theme in an environment that has parallels to post-9/11 America. There is an allusion to a similar method of choice-based progression as in the previous games as “make a decision about killing a DUP officer or not.”
Lastly, there is the inclusion of touchpad action for the new Dualshock 4 controller. Players can absorb smoke by placing both thumbs on the pad while it is also used to “free conduits in cells.”
Keep with Leviathyn for more on inFamous: Second Son over the coming months.

(UPDATE) Patrice Desilets Leaves Ubisoft Montreal… Again

UPDATE: Polygon has reported this statement from Patrice Desilets:
“Contrary to any statements made earlier today, this morning I was terminated by Ubisoft, I was notified of this termination in person, handed a termination notice and was unceremoniously escorted out of the building by two guards without being able to say goodbye to my team or collect my personal belongings. This was not my decision. Ubisoft’s actions are baseless and without merit. I intend to fight Ubisoft vigorously for my rights, for my team and for my game.”
This has turned into one of the most interesting sagas to hear about in the games industry recently. Patrice Desilets, the Designer of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, has once again left Ubisoft Montreal for greener pastures… after leaving once before.
This marks the second time of leaving, as he previously quit Ubisoft in 2010, where he was the Creative lead on the Assassin’s Creed series. The details of why he left were unclear. Desilets then joined THQ Montreal to work on new projects for the company. However, in a cruel twist, he was brought back to the original company when THQ went bankrupt and had to sell its assets to other parties. THQ Montreal went to Ubisoft, and Desilets was back working for the company he had left.
Sources had told Game Informer recently that Desilets was leaving the company again after being acquired through the aforementioned THQ sale. Now, Ubisoft have sent a statement to the website confirming that “Patrice has left the studio.” It also says that he has left (this time) because of the “inconclusive” nature of the “good faith discussions” between the two parties. The full statement is below:
“The acquisition of THQ Montréal in January allowed Ubisoft to welcome 170 experienced developers, including Patrice Désilets, to our existing and renowned workforce. Unfortunately, since the acquisition, the good faith discussions between Patrice and Ubisoft aimed at aligning Patrice’s and the studio’s visions have been inconclusive. As a result, Patrice has left the studio. Our priorities remain with the teams already hard at work on projects in development. They are at the root of Ubisoft Montréal’s past and future successes.”
At THQ Montreal, he had been working on two projects called or codenamed 1666 and Underdog. Ubisoft refused to comment on the status of these games when asked by Game Informer. There is also no word from Patrice Desilets on his plans for the future.

Man Of Steel: New Poster and Music Released

The next Superhero film out this summer following the already wildly popular Marvel film, Iron Man 3, is Man of Steel. The re-imagining of Superman by Warner Brothers and director Zack Snyder is sure to make a pile of money bigger than we can even imagine but the fans of the character are craving for more information from the film. Thankfully, we have some. A new banner poster and a piece of music from the score of the film have been released.
The poster is not your regular sized one. It is a massive banner poster which, as the other previous posters for Man of Steel, has lens flares (akin to JJ Abrams) and focuses on Superman himself flying up toward the sky. It is a very cool and minimalist poster. See it below:

In addition to the lovely poster, Warner Brothers music company, Water Tower Music, have posted our first true hint part from trailers at the the way the music will sound. It was posted 4 days ago on the website SoundCloud and currently has over 100,000 views. There is obvious connections to be drawn between this and the John Williams music of old. The preview starts out with a moving introduction then into more of the loud, ear bleeding music that we now come to associate with Hans Zimmer, the composer of Man of Steel’s soundtrack. Despite this, I still find myself listening to it over and over again. Check it out here.
Man of Steel is set for release on 14th of June 2013, so just over a month away! It features Henry Cavill as the protagonist who faces up against Zod, played by Michael Shannon. Man of Steel also features other famous actors such as Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Kevin Costner as Johnathon Kent and Amy Adams as Superman’s ever present love, Lois Lane.
